El Yunque Tropical Forest

This 28,000-acre is the only rain forest within the US National Forest System. El Yunque receives over 100 billion gallons of annual rainfall and harbors 240 tree species. This forest is verdant with feathery ferns, ropelike vines and exotic flora. Rivers and trickling streams c ollect into gentle pools of rainwater. Also a bird sanctuary, El Yunque is home of the rare Puerto Rican Parrot.
